Current HR Trends and Globalization



Globalization can be describing as the worldwide movement toward economic, financial, trade, and communications integration (Business dictionary, 2019).

With the globalization new trends and findings of HR is spreading widely. Recently more and more companies begun to study and analyze their employees in workplace, so they can use that information in decision making (Leong, 2017). In 2017 69% of the companies have collect and analyze people date where it was 10-15% before (Leong, 2017). Adoption of HR related software streamlined data collection and analysis process helping managers to predict staff needs, expedite the social connections, improve carrier development and make office environment more productive (Leong, 2017).

Millennials starting to dominate the workforce companies begin to change to attract best talent among them (Hernaus & Vokic, 2014). So, this will be an exiting time to HR as employers trying to create employee experiences using technology to develop communication and productivity tools, pulse feedback tools and employee willingness apps (Leong, 2017).

Digitalize HR

Globalization brings HR digitalization to companies worldwide. Artificial intelligence and machine learning tools like GetLinks have contributed to revolutionized recruitment other apps and software have digitalized performance management and lower the cost of it significantly (Leong, 2017).

Singapore-based OCBC Bank developed a mobile app called “HR In Your Pocket”, giving employees a facilities to access HR needs leave, medical and internal job postings (Leong, 2017).Similar app is available in MAS holdings Sri Lanka for their executive level employees.

People analytics

It is developing business and as discipline (Leong, 2017). More organizations would evolve people analytic function by merging internal date sources as well as sources from stake holders to centralize the analytic function.

Gig Economy

“a labor market characterized by the prevalence of short-term contracts or freelance work, as opposed to permanent jobs” (Wilson, 2017). Hiring employees on demand freedom to organization to hire right person for right job and promises low cost. Gig economy will phase out careers and replace temporary jobs based on skill.

Also, Flexible working hours and work from home is increasing with that work from telecommunication increased to 44% from32% in 2012 (Leong, 2017).

    My point on this ....
    Globalisation enable employees to look for employment globally with the intraduction of technology. Its a challenge for HR leaders to recruit talents with only traditional ways .

    1. Yes. For organizations to offer freelancing and part time work first they must adopt certain amount of new technologies. With that organizations must move to search for talent in latest methods. Such as apps like Linked In recruiter, Workable.
